Tips For Family Safety
The fight against COVID-19 has seen numerous advancements, and breakthroughs in medical research bringing hope to families everywhere.
When it comes to protecting yourself and your family against this virus it seems like there is only so much you can do. It is important to realize that the first step is protecting yourself and your family. In this blog we’re going to go through some of the options you should consider in terms of protecting you and your family from COVID. As much as we would love to believe that this virus is gone, it truly isn’t but that doesn’t mean that we cannot try our best to protect ourselves. Now let’s check out the options.
- Vaccination is Key: The most effective way, now, to protect your family from COVID-19 is to get vaccinated. The vaccine has been tested and is safe for family members 6 months of age and greater. If you’re having doubts and want more information on the vaccine, it’s best to speak with your doctor; they can answer your questions more accurately. Start protection, by ensuring that all eligible family members are fully vaccinated. Vaccination significantly reduces the risk of severe illness and transmission.
- Practice Good Hygiene: As we all learned in 2020, practicing good hygiene really does assist in stopping the spread of this virus and many others. Continue practicing good hand hygiene by washing your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. You can also add hand sanitizer to your regimen. Use hand sanitizers with at least 60% alcohol as an alternative when soap is unavailable; but remember to go back and wash your hands thoroughly.
- Mask Up in Risky Situations: If you, a family member, or someone you know has the virus it’s best that everyone masks up. It’s especially important to mask up in areas where there’s high transmission rates or when you’re interacting with vulnerable individuals. This decreases the risk of transmission.
- Stay Informed: The news does a decent job of keeping us informed whenever there is a change or new information about COVID-19. Do your best to keep up with the latest information from trusted sources like the CDC and WHO.
New COVID Study
Imagine the vaccine not only protects you but also acts as a shield for your loved ones, especially if someone in your household becomes infected. Unfortunately, every time we turn around there is another variant of COVID-19 that is surfacing. The new question becomes, how can we prevent others from getting sick if they have been exposed? AIH Research is participating in a clinical trial for an oral prophylaxis medication that is taken for 5 days when a person in their household tests positive for COVID-19. It aims to prevent the person using the treatment from getting the virus.
This treatment is not out yet, but you can be a part of the study now. If you’re considering being a part of the study here is what you should know.
Person (Index patient) testing positive for COVID-19 must:
- Have at least 1 symptom within 24 hours of consenting to study
- Will have 1 in office appointment with the research team
Person(s) (Participant) living in the household with a person who is testing positive:
- Must be 12 years of age or older
- Have a negative COVID-19 test
- Will receive study treatment
Compensation is available for all persons participating in the study and the future of prophylactic treatments for COVID-19.
